Where the Bison Roamed The Globe and Mail

I travelled to Elk Island National Park with writer Simon Lewsen to cover a bison relocation initiative. Once numbering in the tens of millions, North America’s bison population was forcibly reduced to less than 1000 by 1890. Elk Island is at the centre of a revitalization strategy that sent 16 plains bison to Banff National park, where they once freely roamed.
